โครงการปรับปรุงถนนให้ปลอดภัยใน 5 ภูมิภาคของประเทศไทย (ภายใต้โครงการฉลอง ครบรอบ 50 ปีโตโยต้า)

ถนน นับเป็นหนึ่งองค์ประกอบของอุบัติเหตุทางถนน ซึ่งปัจจัยดังกล่าวนี้ หากไม่รวมผลจากความบกพร่องของถนนโดยตรง เช่น ปัญหาหลุมบ่อ ความเสียหายของผิวทาง คนทั่วไปมักจะนึกเสมอว่าอุบัติเหตุเกิดจากความบกพร่องของผู้ขับขี่เป็นหลัก แต่ทั้งนี้ หากบริเวณใดที่เกิดอุบัติเหตุซ้ำๆ ขึ้นบ่อยครั้ง แสดงว่าอาจจะพบปัญหาจากความบกพร่องของถนนเกิดขึ้น จนกว่าจะได้รับการปรับปรุงแก้ไข ดังนั้น การปรับปรุงความปลอดภัยกับถนนจะส่งผลให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงของพฤติกรรมผู้ขับขี่ได้โดยตรง

จากความต้องการในการเสริมสร้างคุณภาพชุมชนและการตอบแทนสังคมในโอกาสครบรอบ 50 ปี บริษัท โตโยต้า มอเตอร์ ประเทศไทย จำกัด  บริษัท โตโยต้า ฯ จึงมีแนวคิดที่จะพัฒนาโครงการเสริมสร้างความปลอดภัยทางถนนใน 5 พื้นที่ตามภูมิภาคของประเทศไทย ตามหลักการทางวิศวกรรมความปลอดภัยทางถนนเพื่อจะเป็นการลดจำนวนอุบัติเหตุและความรุนแรงของอุบัติเหตุที่อาจเกิดขึ้น โดยจะทำการเลือกจุดที่เกิดอุบัติเหตุบ่อยครั้ง 5 จุด จาก 5 ภูมิภาค โดยจะพิจารณาเฉพาะรูปแบบของอุบัติเหตุที่เกิดขึ้นบ่อย ได้แก่ ความเร็วและความง่วง ที่เกิดขึ้นบนถนนในชุมชนและบนทางหลวง จากนั้นจะทำการวิเคราะห์ในรายละเอียด ศึกษาพื้นที่ ออกแบบ และปรับปรุงแก้ไขพื้นที่ให้มีความปลอดภัยต่อผู้ใช้รถใช้ถนนมากยิ่งขึ้น ด้วยหลักการแก้ไขทางวิศวกรรม ได้แก่ การประยุกต์ใช้วงเวียนในถนนของชุมชนเพื่อลดความเร็ว และการติดตั้งแถบสะเทือนที่ไหล่ทาง (Longitudinal Rumble Strips) บนทางหลวง เพื่อเตือนผู้ขับขี่เมื่อรู้สีกง่วง

Road or highways are normally share the responsibility on road accident significant factor on two ways, direct or indirect. Apart from purely bad on roadway defect, potholes or surface damages, people always think that most accidents is mainly contributed by driver’s error. However, in some locations, high numbers of accidents of a similar type can indicate a problem related to the road.  Accidents of this type will continue to occur unless the problem is identified and treated.  Therefore, making some changes to the road environment can change driver behavior and reduce road accidents.

As the strategy of the TMT 50th anniversary is to provide the better quality community and to express gratitude and care for stakeholders, customers, public sector and government, the project of the road improvement in 5 regions is established.  The goal of this project is to improve the road safety of the highways in 5 regions by using the principles of road safety engineering which are the accident reduction and accident prevention.  The hazardous locations will be selected from 5 provinces located in 5 regions.  Then, the process of analysis of accident data, studying sites, and design and implement appropriate improvement will be conducted.
